Preserved Palms
The ultimate artificial plant - the preserved palm - which is the nearest to nature and has a high level of botanical accuracy. If it is not possible to accommodate a real palm, this is the ultimate alternative.
Preserved palms are as near the ‘real’ thing as possible – as they have been created to be as natural and life-like as possible. They are available from a number of areas in Europe, the Far East and America.
Preserved palms do not require acclimatisation as is the case with living palms. Palm growers supply cut palm fronds, without harm to growing trees. Tree trimmers provide recycled palm ‘bark’. Skilled palm artists then create the palm to match the specification (which we will have agreed with our client/the designer/architect/ landscape architect). This is when the exact heights and shapes (curves) are created to ensure the ultimate result.
It is important that the trunks have the correct taper and bend, the foliage is carefully preserved, dyed and flame retarded – all ensuring good colour, shape, flame retardancy and certainly no leeching (especially in high humidity pool areas).
Species
We recommend the use of Washington Robusta Fan Palms or Date Palm leaves for really good effect. The trunks are normally left natural, but trimmed, smoother varieties are available, but these are often fibreglass replicas rather than natural preserved trunks.

Benefits : Artificial -v- Live Palms
No need for Nursery Trips No need for acclimatisation No need for crane (unless an access problem) No need for planters with drainage No need for natural light/additional lighting No need for special floor loading No regular watering/care No need for pest control No plant mortality No need to replace once it grows through the roof
Exceptional value for money - live trees (which may need regular replacement) cannot compete!
Case Histories
In the top photograph there are four preserved palms with Date Palm leaves. Each trunk was individually built with a slight bend and realistic taper. The trees are fixed on stainless steel plates especially constructed so that the trees ‘grow from the ground’ rather than be positioned in containers. These palms look fantastic in position, and as there is no natural light in the roof of the pool, live palms would have failed soon after installation. Why not go and see them - you can buy day tickets for Nirvana Spa in Berkshire and enjoy all their superb facilities. Nirvana Spa - telephone 0118 977 1777
In the second photograph is a 5m tall preserved Phoenix palm in situ at Hall and Woodhouse, 1 Old King Street, Bath. This stunning tree is in a pot which would not be large enough to sustain a living palm tree of this size. Installed in June 2010 this tree provides a lovely setting in which one can enjoy a superb meal - telephone 01225 469259 to make a booking.
Guarantee We are normally able to guarantee the palms for 36 months after installation.
Aftercare Once one has invested in a preserved palm it needs to be carefully maintained. Regular cleaning is essential to ensure that it always looks in prime condition.
Low Voltage Lighting Lights can be added into the palm during construction.
